Fatty 1 – Intermittent Fasting – Day 4

Posted by actingchick on April 18, 2009

So I have to say that each day is getting easier.  Am I still hungry?  Yes.  But am I soooo hungry?  No.  And most of the time when I notice that I am hungry, if I start doing some sort of activity, then I forget that I’m hungry.  And I also notice the hunger comes and goes.  I’ll be hungry, feel my stomach gurgling, and then it will stop after about 15 minutes and I don’t feel hungry for a while.

I also do have to say I have more energy. Mostly what I feel like is that I’m not tired, which I normally feel.  Sometimes, and I felt this more strongly the first few days, I feel like I’ve had a little too much caffeine.  At first it seems counter intuitive, since you figure I don’t have any food in me, I shouldn’t have any energy, and I will be dragging, but it is the opposite.  It is after I eat that I get sleepy.

I suppose this might make sense from an evolutionary stand point.  It wouldn’t be very good for survival if when you were hungry you got tired, then you couldn’t go out and hunt.  What you need is energy so you can go out and get some food.  Then when you eat your energy is going to be used to digest that food and get it into your body ASAP.

Anyway, I think I can do this for a while.  It doesn’t seem to bad at all, much better than other diets I’ve been on, and I’ve been on most of them.  I like not having to worry about keep track of what I eat or worrying about what I can’t eat.  I’m still trying to eat healthy, but if that occasionally Haagen-dazs chocolate peanut butter ice cream finds it’s way into my stomach, oh well.

Now I haven’t weighed myself to see if I’m losing weight.  I have a normal weigh in schedule which is every two weeks.  I have another 8 days until my next weigh in.  Then I will see if this experiment is having it’s desired effect.  Right now I’m just concerned with increasing my fasting time slowly to 19 hours, and then maintaining my five hour window.  That and I’m going to keep enjoying the fact that I don’t have to monitor my eating.

How did the weekend go? I struggled through mine. And by “struggle” I mean ate a cheeseburger, loads of potato chips, and a couple of my favorite microbrew beers to boot! Monday thus was a much needed day to get back to fasting so I started up again at noon on monday and just concluded my 24 hours with some fresh cantaloupe. I hope you are hanging in there!

    Be good to yourself.

Well, you have to have beers with the cheeseburger, I think that goes without saying. It’s good that you started up on your fast again with some nice healthy food.

My weekend went by fairly smoothly. I had stuff to keep me busy, so I didn’t notice I was hungry. I find it a little harder at work, where my job is somewhat boring and I used to use food as entertainment to break the tedium.
